REMEMBER:  EDUCATION + AWARENESS = PREVENTION!!!

We need more TRAUMA RECOVERY CENTERS (TRC’s) in every state in the US.

As of 2020, there were only 15 TRCs in California, 9 in Ohio, and several more in Michigan, Illinois, Iowa and New Jersey.

From the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles, California:

The TRC provides supportive services, outreach, emergency and healing interventions to victims/survivors and their families. We focus on responding to victimization from crimes and complex trauma from interpersonal violence including sexual and domestic violence, family and community violence, sex trafficking, intimate partner stalking and homelessness.”

Services offered by trauma recovery centers include trauma-informed clinical case management; evidence-based individual, group and family psychotherapy; crisis intervention; medication management; legal advocacy and assistance in filing police reports and accessing victim compensation funds; and are offered at no cost to the patient. These types of comprehensive services and assistance are intended to help people who have experienced violent crime, including patients who suffered gunshot wounds, as well as victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, and hate crimes, and those who had a family member assaulted or killed. To provide this breadth of services, trauma recovery centers utilize multidisciplinary staff members that might include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and outreach workers.

About Mosaic Georgia

Founded in 1986 as Gwinnett Rape Crisis to provide support to victims through a crisis line and accompaniment through forensic medical exams (aka, “rape kit” exam), Mosaic Georgia is a ‘dual services’ center with specialized services for children, teens, and adults. We provide free, confidential support and services to victims and survivors of rape, sexual assault, and child sexual molestation and abuse. We work with survivors of all genders regardless of when the violence occurred and whether they choose to report. Support to children and their non-offending caregivers are offered with care.

Founded by Becca Stevens in 1997 to provide women survivors the time and space for transformative, sustainable healing from trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. The program includes two years of housing, healthcare, counseling, job training, and meaningful employment in a trauma-informed care setting.

For more information on Becca Stevens and Thistle Farms, please click here.

“None of the women ended up in their situation by themselves. It takes broken systems in our community to make them become runaways, allow them to be trafficked, and to become addicted, so it makes sense that it takes a community to help welcome them back and help them heal.”

– Becca Stevens, Founder of Thistle Farms

Naomi’s House works to address each of these needs by providing a trauma-informed, comprehensive program. Our approach to care is to therapeutically meet her emotional, practical, and physical needs. We accomplish this through a highly trained professional staff, an evidence-based daily program, and strategic partnership with other local agencies in the community. Women can stay in our program for up to 12 months.

Our Mission
Naomi’s House programs are comprehensive services offering hope and healing to women who have suffered from commercial sexual exploitation. We are:

⦁ Faith-based, rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ
⦁ Trauma-informed, integrated with expert therapists and staff
⦁ Committed to her full healing, believing she is the best advocate for her own care

Naomi’s House Programs

⦁ NH Residential Program
⦁ NH4 Independent Living Program
⦁ The Gathering Place Day Program

Because our women come to NH with little to no financial resources, our services are free for our residents. In addition to the therapeutic services we offer, our residents receive a warm and safe place to live, nutritional food, clothes, toiletries, and other personal items, as well as 24-hour staff supervision and support. Part of our approach to care is to meet her tangible needs while preparing her to care for herself when she exits from our program. We begin the conversation of reintegration from the beginning of her time with us.

Raise My Head Foundation

Raise My Head Foundation
P.O. Box 49321  |  Wichita, KS 67201
https://raisemyhead.org/about/

(Raise My Head Foundation is a Thistle Farms Sister Organization.)

Providing healing and restoration for women breaking free from sex trafficking.

At Raise My Head Foundation, we stand as a witness to the truth that, in the end, hope is stronger than despair. Light is stronger than darkness. Compassion is stronger than evil. And love is the greatest of all.

Our Mission
The mission of Raise My Head Foundation is to provide women who are breaking free from sex trafficking a safe residence away from damaging influences where they can receive healing and restoration. We provide a large array of support services with the intent to give these women the opportunity for recovery, growth, and transformation.

Our Story
Here in Kansas, we draw our inspiration from the sunflower, which lifts its head each day to the warmth of the sun’s rays. For trafficked women, love is that light. It is stronger than the darkest evil. More powerful than the deepest doubt. It destroys addictions, shatters lies, heals broken hearts, and restores a woman’s voice. Love is greater.

What
Raise My Head provides a safe, structured two-year residential program for women over the age of eighteen who are breaking free from sex trafficking. The goal of the program is for these women to receive the services necessary for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing and renewal so that they are empowered to live a life of freedom and fulfillment.

How
Our program is based on a 1500-year-old Benedictine Rule of Life and modeled after our successful sister program in Nashville, Tennessee (THISTLE FARMS). We meet our residents’ physical needs by providing housing and food for the duration of the program, as well as medical and dental care. We help them heal from the abuses they have suffered by giving them counseling and therapy. We empower them for a bright future with our education and job training programs. And, most importantly, we show these women that they are loved and valued by restoring their identity and their voice.

All of this is done entirely through the support of our generous donors. We receive no government funding, and the women who heal here will never be charged a penny for our services.

In the Fall of 2018, we launched an online cottage industry selling skincare to help the women develop job skills and build their resume to gain employment after graduation.

Empowering women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation since 2000

After having spent twenty-four years in the life of prostitution, Kristy founded Veronica’s Voice, a Kansas City-based organization named in remembrance of Veronica. Kristy dedicated her new life to helping women and girls caught in the vicious violent cycle of commercial sexual exploitation. Kristy’s vision and passion has been seen through a host of services for victims, as well as education, advocacy and legal work to target the demand and avert entry into the cycle of abuse in prostitution.

(The Well of Lexington is a Thistle Farms Sister Organization.)

The Well of Lexington provides a holistic program of safe housing for women, recovery support, education and healing for women and their families exploited by sex trafficking to empower them to reach economic independence and live productive lives.

The Well of Lexington is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization committed to helping women live free from sexual exploitation, addiction, and homelessness. We provide a two-year residential program of recovery and renewal for women who have survived sex trafficking or prostitution, and most often also suffer from substance disorder, and want a safe and healing environment in which to rest, recover, and create new and healthier lives for themselves.

Modeled after the Magdalene Program at Thistle Farms® in Nashville, Tennessee, we take a “housing first” approach. Women who enter The Well have a welcoming home and community to live in, free-of-charge, for up to two years while they participate in the Program. During this time, each Resident receives comprehensive professional case management to help her obtain all of the services necessary to begin the process of healing.

The mission of The Well is to get the women out of the abusive lifestyle for good. To instill in them the dignity they are entitled to and empower them to be a self- loving, productive member of society. They learn to survive and take pride in their accomplishments.

To keep children and youth from falling prey to sex traffickers, The Well provides a safety and outreach program to the most at-risk youth and families in the Bluegrass.

(Eden House is a Thistle Farms Sister Organization.)

Eden House is a movement to eradicate the trafficking and selling of human beings. We create systemic change through: youth prevention; education and legislative advocacy; and recovery and reentry services for victims, including long-term shelter.

Founded in 2011, Eden House is the first recovery home for adult victims of human trafficking and commercial exploitation in the Greater New Orleans area. Eden House is patterned after Magdalene House/Thistle Farms in Nashville, Tennessee, which has a long history of providing successful recovery services for trafficking survivors. Eden House addresses our community’s epidemic of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation for all races and ages.

In September 2016, Eden House launched its prevention education program, R.E.A.L. Choices, using the curriculum developed by My Life My Choice. This curriculum is geared towards at-risk youth, to help them identify and avoid exploitation in their own lives, led by both a survivor leader and clinical staff member.
