Podcast on Spotify:  Kaytee with a Why  (Discussing the whys of our behavior through a trauma informed lens

“Kaytee with a Why” In the survivor community, many of us find that we have very similar stories, including the fact that that we struggled with what is “normal” when it comes to human behaviors and relationships. Many of us have questions about our families, relationships, and behaviors.

Hi! I am Kaytee. I am a licensed clinical social worker/psychotherapist, and I have been in the field for over 10 years. I specialize in working with survivors of family trauma, family dysfunction, and IPV and abuse. The impact of trauma from our younger years will come out in committed adult relationships, which is often what leads people to therapy. It’s essential to find a therapist who fully “gets” you, and understands your experiences. Sometimes we will start working on family of origin stuff, sometimes we start with the presenting issue or current stressor that brings you in. I work from a trauma-informed and attachment-based lens, and I use a combination of psychotherapy techniques that are catered to the individual and the goals we come up with. I enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ individuals. I am LGBTQIA+, poly and consensually non-monogamous allied, and sex work affirming.

Please feel free to email me to ask questions to determine if I am a good fit for you.  kaytlyngillislcsw@gmail.com

Invisible Bruises: How a Better Understanding of the Patterns of Domestic Violence can Help Survivors Navigate the Legal System (Available on Amazon)
Kaytlyn Gillis’s debut, Invisible Bruises, is gripping account of the ways in which the legal system actually perpetuates the cycle of domestic violence. Gillis describes in a chilling, raw manner the way that victims continuously fall through the cracks in our criminal justice system while the courtroom becomes yet another tool that perpetrators use to further the abuse. Gillis navigates the courtroom battle with readers while giving tips for minimizing the risk of re-traumatization.

Using elements from real-life events and drawing conclusions from her work as a Psychotherapist and advocate with experience helping victims navigate the court system, Gillis sheds light on how little we know about the cycle of domestic and intimate partner violence and reminds us that the law can only do so much to protect survivors.
